Matthew Johnson

In-House Legal Counsel

Matthew serves as legal counsel and privacy officer for EP where his work mainly focuses on transactional matters and privacy issues. Before practicing law full-time, he served as an integral part of EP’s business development team for 4 years.

Matthew graduated with an undergraduate degree in Finance from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, and attended law school at the University of Tennessee College of Law.  Matthew has had a broad range of work experiences, including having had an internship with the U.S. Consulate in Milan, Italy.  During law school, he was a twice-published member of the business law journal and worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Legal Directorate Division.  Matthew is a licensed attorney in Tennessee and holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Alabama.  Matthew also actively practices tax law, mainly handling tax controversies, where he has assisted taxpayers with disputes regarding all kinds of tax liabilities ranging from as low as $49 to well in excess of $1 million.

Matthew is an active member of a number of local organizations in Nashville including the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association, and Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce. Matthew is an Eagle Scout and fluent in Spanish. He enjoys traveling, computing, gardening, and being with his wife.
